UPDATE: Our Certified Barbeque Judge course is now full. Spots are still available in our Table Captain course.
Do you have a passion and palate for what makes good BBQ?
Register now for Alberta’s only Certified Barbeque Judge and Table Captain classes in 2019, hosted by the Porkapalooza BBQ Festival Society and the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) on Saturday, May 11 in Edmonton.
The Certified Barbeque Judge course prepares students to impartially judge BBQ submissions (meats) in a blind taste format as part of a KCBS-sanctioned competition. The Table Captain course prepares students to be responsible for managing the judging process at a table of judges, which includes ensuring the proper procedures are followed by judges. Both positions are required to be filled at Porkapalooza, but an individual may fill only one of those positions at a time.
The Table Captain class will be held from 10 a.m. to Noon, and the Certified Barbeque Judge class will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Classes will be held in a room (to be announced) at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) Main Campus.
The cost is $75 per person, and all registrants must be active members of KCBS. Become a KCBS member. Proof of KCBS membership will be required before registering. To register for a course, email info@porkapalooza.ca. Payment details will be provided once your request is received.
Only KCBS-qualified Certified Barbeque Judges and Table Captains may participate in KCBS-sanctioned competitions worldwide, including Porkapalooza. If you are already certified, or once you have successfully taken a course, you can complete our judge application form for Porkapalooza 2019 and we will do our best to accommodate you.
