The sixth, annual 2019 Porkapalooza BBQ Festival takes place on Father’s Day weekend: Saturday, June 15 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and on Sunday, June 16, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. outside the Edmonton Expo Centre.
This year, we are aiming to be the biggest barbeque festival outside of the U.S. That means a target of 75 teams—an increase of 24 teams over last year. It will be a challenge, but we know there are plenty barbeque enthusiasts out there just waiting to finally step into competition mode.
Porkapalooza includes a world-class cooking competition, sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS). The competition features over $15,000 in prize money awarded in various categories by type of meat, a chef’s challenge, a steak competition and special young chef events. Porkapalooza is also one of the three Alberta Cup barbeque competitions taking place this year.
The festival is free for anyone to attend and includes plenty of activities for families and food lovers to enjoy. Guests are invited to check out guided tours of the Competition Area, cooking demonstrations from professional chefs at our Food Stage, local performers on our Music Stage, and a play area and craft station in our Kids’ Zone.
Competition rules and provincial health regulations dictate food service at the festival. Many barbeque teams are not permitted to sell food or provide samples for guests, but they are more than happy to talk their craft. Several dedicated food vendors and a beer garden will be on-site for guests to satisfy their needs.
The festival is organized by the Porkapalooza BBQ Festival Society, a non-profit organization, with generous financial support from Alberta Pork and other amazing sponsors.
See you at the Big Meat Up!
